So this past weekend I moved into my new apartment. My first adult apartment. My dream apartment. The most amazing place I might ever live in.

However, that means, naturally, that I moved out of my old apartment. My crappy student apartment. The place that I just spent the last 5 years of my life in, potentially the best 5 years of my life thus far.

Bittersweet.

This past week has flown by in a haze. Packing and moving. Leaving my old apartment behind and moving into this amazing new space. It doesn’t feel real yet. That being said…

…I’m excited for the next chapter.

A Tuesday in Toronto

Earlier this week I took a little whirlwind, 2-day trip to Toronto with my lovely friend Sydney. We drove down on Tuesday morning and spent the afternoon wandering around downtown, doing some shopping and eating Thai food. Dundas Square was beautifully lit up for the Holidays so we had to stop for some pictures. Shopping and wandering and Thai food all seem like reasons enough to make the 2 hour trip to Toronto, however if you follow me on Twitter or Instagram or even on Facebook, you may have seen me post this picture a while ago.This my friends, was the real reason for our mid-week trip to the city.

If you know me at all, you will know I love Bon Iver and have loved Bon Iver, with all of my heart, for years. I love For Emma, Forever Ago, and like all of his fans, waited patiently (or not so patiently) until this past year when he released Bon Iver, Bon Iver. Currently, Bon Iver holds 15 of the spots in my 25 most played list on iTunes. I’m literally obsessed.

You guys, it is just the most beautiful music. I can’t say enough about it.

They played one show earlier in the summer and it sold out so quickly I didn’t have a chance to get tickets. I was devastated. Then the Live Nation App on my phone (loooove iPhones) told me that he was playing another show. I waited up after a night shift and got tickets the minute I could. Thankfully I got two. And not just two tickets, two killer seats.

Fast forward to Tuesday night.

We get into Massey Hall (amaaaazing venue) and I literally start having difficulty breathing. I don`t remember much of the opening act except that she was super cute, British, and was amazing at the guitar.

Then out comes Justin and his band.I got chills as soon as they started playing Perth, and had chills for the next two hours. It`s hard to pick out highlights, but Flume is high up on the list. I cried. I could not have helped myself if my life depended on it. I can`t even tell you how amazing it was. I simply can`t.

If you get the chance to go and see Bon Iver play live, do it. do it! DO IT! (yes that is me shouting at you)

I paid good money for our seats. Knowing what I know now, I would have paid at least double what I paid to go again.

The night kind of feels like a dream, I still get chills when I think about it and I honestly have not been able to listen to any music since. Nor do I want to.

For now, I will just live with my memories of the best concert I have ever been too.

Spending my first Christmas/Holiday season in like, forever, not having to worry about exams. Working my first Christmas (one of the joys of a career in healthcare). Putting together the perfect Holiday playlist including old favourites (Sarah McLachlan & Sufjan) and new ones too (Carole King, She & Him, Justin Bieber{I’m not even ashamed}). Christmas crafts (which I can only expect will involve a lot of silver glitter). Christmas shopping (yes, I’m one of those crazy people that loves the crowds that come Christmas shopping). Red Starbucks cups (probably too many). Packing and starting to move (yes, I found out I get to live in my dream apartment come January). Bon Iver (next week!!!!!!!!! {yes, that many exclamation points are absolutely necessary}).

This is what my December is looking like. Hopefully yours looks as lovely as mine.

How to Scrapbook…

…when you haven’t in over a year. In six simple steps.

Step Number One: Get threatening tweets from your friends to get your ass in gear and make a layout. Please click for Exhibit A.Step Number Two: Clear off your desk. Clearly for me that was a bigger task than it might be for some. Luckily I had a big empty bed to clear it off too. (Notice I didn’t say clean it off). (You should note, I’m only a little embarrassed by the state of my desk. Most of my embarrassment stems from the empty juice boxes and chocolate bars.) Step Number Four: Pour yourself a glass of wine. You may choose to use this as either step one or step two. You may also want to keep the bottle close by in case you need a refill.

Step Number Five: Find your favourite jumping off point for a layout. Something that works for you, that you keep going back to over and over again. Mine, as you can see is a piece of Kraft cardstock.

Step Six: (This is the final step, and the most important) Don’t think. Do. (The wine plays an important role in this step).Voila! Follow all of these steps and you too can have a completed layout like the one above. Yes, even after a year of not scrapbooking anything! (The title is kind of a play on words. Hello to my old friend Vicki, but also to my old friend scrapbooking. See what I did there? Good Right?)

And just let me know if you need help with step number one. I’d be more than happy to send you threatening tweets.

Despite lyrical title of this blog post, and David Bowie – this post has nothing to do with David Bowie. Or music of any kind really.

Actually, randomly I sometimes get people telling me I look like David Bowie among a few other people, including, most recently, the lead singer of Japan according to the Fed Ex guy. But I think he looks like David Bowie sooo…Anyways, I never really saw the resemblance aside from the fact that we’re both blonde and have kind of angular faces. Until I took that picture above. In that picture I totally see at least a hint of a resemblance where before I saw nothing. So, cool right?

So I guess I lied this post does have something to do with David Bowie. But that’s not why I sat down to write this post.

Today I saw, and applied to live in the most amazing apartment. So, basically I’m freaking out. If I can’t live in this apartment I don’t want to live anywhere else and I’ll live on the street. Ok maybe not, but I’m freaking out. The landlady said that she has a couple coming back to see the place tomorrow and to take some measurements before they give their final say. If they say no, then it’s mine and I get the keys sometime in December with it officially being mine in January. So send me all the well wishes, thoughts, prayers, good vibes etc. that you can muster up on this Tuesday evening.

She’s calling me tomorrow to let me know, so basically I’m dying. Right now I’m test driving my holiday playlist while starting to put up a Christmas decorations and drinking some kitty wine to keep myself from thinking about it until my roommate comes home at which time I’m going for sushi. So,

Hello Kiddos.

Just popping in to say that I saw Santa this weekend. No big deal.

I spent my Saturday night with some lovelies taking in the local Santa Clause parade. Starbucks` Christmas coffees in hand, of course. Tonight, I am once again sipping on Starbucks`and enjoying The Family Stone, my very first holiday movie of the season. I can only imagine its just a matter of time until my iTunes is playing Christmas music and my little apartment is all decked out for the season.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Holiday season has arrived. And as you can see we are quite thrilled about it. Happy Sunday!

Ok. So I know Halloween is over but the title of this blog post actually has nothing to do with Halloween aside from the fact that I threw in a picture of myself on Halloween. Those of you who follow me on Twitter may have already seen it and to answer potential questions: Yes, I did do the makeup on my own. It took 2.5 hours on the first night, and about 2 on the second night. No, that is not my real hair haha.

But onto the real reason for this little post, Flo.

People who follow me on Twitter may also know that I pre-ordered this album and when it was available for download on Monday, I listened to it all day. Since Monday, I have listened to literally nothing else, but Ceremonials over, and over and over. Many dance parties have happened all over my apartment since Monday.

I’m not yet sure if I think this album is “better” than the first, but there is no question that this is a strong follow up to her first album (which I loved and still listen to very frequently).

You guys, this album is really good. My favourite tracks (today anyways) are Only If for a Night and Never Let Me Go. AND, you can go here to listen to the whole album. So GO RIGHT NOW and be sure to listen to my faves!

Florence Welch is beautiful and her voice is haunting. Simply beautiful.

(Photobooth) What I’m Wearing

Ok, so I know I literally just blogged about my new camera (which I am loving) however I was getting ready this morning and was ready to head out the door when I glimpsed myself in the mirror and said, “Damn, I look good today. I should share this outfit.” But, since I was just about to head out the door I didn’t have time to take some proper outfit photos. The solution? A photobooth What I’m Wearing shoot. So this is what I wore to run some errands earlier today. I give you, my errand running, mall-walking, denim on denim ensemble.

Things I Learned About Myself at a Backstreet Boys Concert

So, if you’ve never done it, going to a concert from one of your favourite childhood bands in your adult life is a really crazy/weird/exciting/enlightening experience. Here is a (potentially embarrassing) collection of things I learned/musings/thoughts on the day after a Backstreet Boys Concert.

When we decided, on a whim, to buy tickets to the NKOTBSB (New Kids on the Block + Backstreet Boys) show yesterday morning for the show last night I was obviously excited, because I love going to shows and I also loved BSB in my early teens. However, I was not at all prepared for how excited I actually was when BSB came out. Let’s have some real talk for a minute here ok? You’ve all see how crazy the little tweens go when they see Justin Bieber. Or maybe you remember or have seen the way people used to react to the Beatles. You guys, that was me last night. I don’t know what came over me (actually I do, it was my 8-12 year old self, that used to dance around my room to BSB) but I can only imagine how ridiculous I must have looked last night. And the amazing thing is, I don’t even care because almost everyone else who was there was doing the same thing. So I totally went to this show to see the Backstreet Boys. I think NKOTB were just a bit before my time in that they were still around when I was in my boy band phase however, they had their heyday when I was too young to remember. However, I was surprised to learn that I knew a lot more NKOTB songs than I thought I did going into the concert. Which resulted in me singing many of their songs at the top of my lungs as well, when I had really planned to use the NKOTB songs to rest my voice for the next BSB song. Needless to say my voice was a little sore last night.

Speaking of singing at the top of my lungs, BSB songs are right in my perfect vocal range. I need to keep this in mind the next time I go to Karaoke. Also some of the dance moves I find myself pulling on during dance parties are very similar to the sweet boy band dance moves that NKOTBSB were pulling out last night. No doubt an influence of me watching BSB music videos all those years. But, with the singing and the dancing I’m wondering if I missed my calling. I should find out if they want to replace Kevin. Back in my hardcore BSB days, I was always a Brian fan. He was always my favourite. After last night, I’m pretty sure AJ is my new favourite member of BSB. Brian is still a close second, and his highlighter pink shoes were super rad, and I don’t know why but AJ has taken Brian’s place as my favourite Backstreet Boy. While I was singing at the top of my lungs and learning some new boy band dance moves for my next dance party, I realized that I actually still really like BSB music. Like, I’m listening to it right now, and I think I’ll be listening to it for at least a few more days. And on top of that, I’m not even ashamed haha. I think part of the reason why I still like it is nostalgic, but let’s be honest, it’s good music.

The show itself was actually amazing. Really, really well done. It was interesting to see how NKOTBSB shared the stage and the finale was really cool. Also it was the final show of the tour so it was really sentimental/special for the guys and you could tell watching the concert (at one point AJ even came out in shiny gold briefs and a tank top to party boy NKOTB while they were singing – maybe a contributing factor to him being my new fave).

So there you go, concerts can be a soul-searching/learning experience. lol Go and learn something about yourself friends.

Well Hello There.

Hello kiddos. A very happy Sunday to you all. What you are seeing up there is the very first picture taken by my brand new friend, Rebel T3i (!!!). T3i this is my blog and its lovely readers, readers Rebel. Say hi…I feel much better now that you’ve all been formally introduced because you’re going to be seeing a lot of each other around here I’m sure.

My new friend there was a reward/gift for myself. For graduating and getting a big person job mostly but also because I did a much deep clean of this apartment on Friday/Saturday. So I decided to pop out yesterday afternoon and pick up my new little friend here.

For those of you who have been following my little blog here for a long time you’ll know how thrilled I am to finally have myself a nice DSLR because I have been toying with the idea on this blog forEVER. However, the ridiculously excited face you see there is twofold. First and foremost it is because of my new camera (which I have yet to name…so if you have any suggestions I’d love to hear them) but second of all it is because tonight I will be going to see the Backstreet Boys. That smile is the 11 (or so) year old in myself that used to dance around to Black and Blue with my cousin in her bedroom. We just decided to see if there were still tickets available last night and when there were and we confirmed the payment, I only screamed a little bit. Needless to say I’m listening to Backstreet Boys as I type, brushing up on the lyrics so I can sing along to all of the songs.

So yeah, that’s what I’m up to this evening. How was your weekend?

What I Wore

So with the new design I’m planning on trying out some new things. One of the features I’m really drawn to on other peoples blogs are What I (We) Wore posts. And since such a big part of my life has to do with clothes (shopping, fashion magazines and blogs, etc.) I figured I would venture into the world of What I Wore posts. So please bear with me and my cheesy/ridiculous faces and poses as I try to find my What I Wore groove. Also please excuse the blue leash running across the bottom of that photo. I was walking Archie when I decided to take pics. ha!

With that I give you my first installment – What I Wore for my new blog photos.

These were taken in days gone by. Days when the air was cool enough that it was comfortable to wear a (p)leather jacket and a flannel shirt. Right now? Not so much. In fact right now its so hot that I can frequently be found around my apartment not wearing pants. TMI? Maybe, I don’t mind.

Ps. I took these with the self timer on my camera and so there were a number that didn’t turn out. However I was surprised by something. I give you the evidence…

These are two of probably 8 or 10 photos where I noticed how long my K9 teeth are. Upon closer inspection in my bathroom mirror, and various comparisons with friends and family I have come to realize I do in fact, have abnormally long K9s. Dare I say, vampire long??

I also chose these two pictures in particular not only because you can see how long my teeth are but I am also running my tongue along my teeth. Which only adds to the sexy/brooding/vampy/Twilight/True Blood feel of the pictures. I can assure you I do not have a taste for blood of any kind. Seriously, I don’t even eat red meat.

Ok so this has been my first What I Wore post and I’m rambling about my vampire teeth. Like I said, bear with me.

So this blog has been pretty sleepy for a while, that’s why I’m exited to welcome you to my new blog friends!

Actually its the same blog, just with a major, MA-jor facelift. I was tired with the way my old blog was looking, it was essentially the same as when I first started blogging three years ago. So, I’ve had a good break from blogging, but for the past little while I’ve been feeling the blogging bug again.

So, for the past week or so I’ve been working tirelessly to make this a place I wanted to spend more time. It took a lot of late nights, a lot of Googling HTML and CSS tutorials, lots of swear words shouted out loud, at the top of my lungs when things didn’t work out and then lots of long, hard dance parties when they finally did work out. But despite the hard work, and I think because of it I’m even more thrilled with the way things have turned out here and I’m hoping this is a place where you want to spend more time too.

So take a look around, my fresh new blog. Click things, and see what adventures they take you on. You’ll notice however a few of the links in the navigation bar at the top bring you back to the home page, but that will change very soon hopefully.

please excuse me while i tidy up the little mess around here. you know, the one on the blog, not necessarily the one in my room. which as you can see, is pretty bad. piles on the desk, clothes on my chair – hence my working from the bed. actually i always work from the bed even when my desk + chair is cleared however rarely that may be. ha!

anyways. i’m currently gathering inspiration, designing and executing a teeny little blog redesign. nothing major, just a little sprucing up to make this place a place where i want to be spending more time. hopefully a little face lift will give me the inspiration i need to start blogging a little more regularly.

so please don’t mind the mess around here over the next little while, good chance things could look pretty crazy as i work on this space, especially since i don’t really know what i’m doing and am only hoping things turn out the way i’m envisioning. ha.

oh heyy.

so yup, for those of you who don’t follow me on twitter and see my frequent, ridiculous tweets – i am still alive. for those of you who only follow me on my blog, and who only know me through my blog then i can completely understand why you might have thought i was dead on account of the fact that i haven’t blogged in well over a month and a half.

why did i stop you ask? well it was partly because i didn’t have a computer for a while and got out of the habit of it. but it was also because i just wasn’t feeling it.

so then what brings me back is naturally the next question on your mind. well one thing is a sweet comment on my last post from the lovely Sasha. also this past week my senses have been on overload from new york fashion week.

i don’t know what it is but fashion gets me so creatively excited. there is just something about it. i don’t think i’ll blog about it here, i tweet about it pretty frequently though so check it out on twitter. really quickly though, some highlights from the fw’11 shows so far are proenza schouler, marc jacobs, alice + olivia and rodarte (obvs).

anyways, for the time being i’m back. and while i’m here, i’ll share a layout i finished yesterday.

This is for the February Creative Type prompt. (check out what the other girls came up and play along for yourself right here) it is also the start of my documenting my trip to india. i think i’ve finally decided how i’m going to document it on paper which will no doubt lead to me blogging about it. so yay for that.

anyways, i’m sorry for this random collection of thoughts and ramblings and the extra long hiatus. but i’m back and i’m glad to be back. i missed all of you :)

May was for beautiful weather, picnics and silly portraits of your brother at your cousin’s wedding. June and July were for huge dreams coming true. :) (which I will be blogging all about in the new year. Promise.) August was for spending time with the fam, working every night, and bumper cars, obvs.

October was for family portraits and gem tank-tops (accompanied by a LOT of lunges). Uncut Christmas Vlog.

I always say I should Vlog about something but I never have anything good to Vlog about and I always feel like my videos are suuuper awkward after I shoot them. Anyways so when Kim asked me to be a part of a little Christmas project she was putting together, it was just the kick in the ass I needed to actually put together a little Vlog.

You can see Kim’s blog with all of the lovely ladies who took part here. Or right on my blog in my post from yesterday (GO!) Like I said yesterday, it is totally worth your ten minutes to watch that video. It is funny and heart-warming and just a lovely little video.

Anyways, I sent Kim over 5 minutes of me awkwardly rambling on about many a Christmassy things. Here, is that full video.

Once again, big thanks to the lovely people at YouTube for picking the most amazing screencap of me as the start image. And yes I know you can change them, this is the best of the three options I was given.

If you make it through the whole awkward thing congrats because I definitely can’t. I dunno, there is just something about watching myself on video – so strange. Also I had to cut out a ton of me laughing after the carollers comment. It was such a ridiculous thing for me to say and I cracked myself up.

Inter-Webular Goings On

We are currently in the thick of finals period kids. During this time period it is common to find students all over the nation drinking coffee as fast as it can be made, with bags under their eyes, stressed and un-showered. This is including myself, as evidenced by this group of texts Random yes. We were planning getting some supplies or Christmas dinner later this week. And just for your information “And I shebang showered in days” is read “and I haven’t showered in days” ha. I was waiting for the bus, my fingers got cold and spazzy and my phone auto-corrected whatever I had typed to shebang. Classic autocorrect. But yes, I haven’t showered in days. My hair is disgusting and I’m keeping it contained in a hat and I don’t think that I’ve started to develop a smell so…

Anyways, there are some pretty exciting things going on around the interweb this week.

First, my pal London (holler!) of Such Sweet Tierney is currently hosting a 12 days of giveaways on her blog. Its currently day three and you can enter every day, all 12 days for a chance to win some really cool prizes. So go on over and get yourself some good swag.

Next, Vanessa blogged about the time back in September when I went to go visit her and crash the baby shower she was throwing for miss Katie. Here is proof that this little meeting did in fact take place. Yay! it was fun to be reminded of the good weekend we had. I can’t say it enough how cute and sweet Steven and Katie are, and Vanessa was a wonderful, and funny, with a fridge full of boxed wine. Such a good hostess. Anyways, go here to read all about our fun weekend.

Finally, the lovely Kimberly Scott asked me to take part in a little Christmas Vlog she put together. So I got out my little camera and started to ramble on about all things Christmas. Here is the video that Kim put together – its super good and totally worth your ten minutes.

All I Want or Christmas – CT December

So last week the new Creative Type prompt went up and I thought I’d finally share my little project with you.

The prompt was “All I Want for Christmas” and we had to use something vintage on our project. Here is what I made... It is a little envelope in which you can keep all of your Christmas wishes!! I used some vintage fabric scraps and I used a vintage colour palate. I am currently loving the seventies olive and mustard combo. This is a fun little project that all of you can do too. Or something you can do with your kiddos on a snowy day. Just grab an envelope – I reused one that someone sent me some goodies in – and then decorate it all up however you’d like. Now go forth an make one yourselves after you check out what everyone else came up with for the prompt at the Creative Type.

HP Mania or Dumbledore Level Magic

Everyday of the year I am a pretty big Harry Potter fan. I mean I don’t go around broadcasting it to the world but I have all of the books (except for the Goblet of Fire – which I lent to someone who never returned it) and all of the movies (except for the Prisoner of Azkaban – which I lent to someone who never returned it) (sidenote: I think there’s a lesson about lending my things to people somewhere in here…). But I have all the books and movies and frequently watch the movies throughout the year. I am a fan. But, at the time when a new Harry Potter movie is about to come out, I become a crazy fan. This year in particular, since I was lied to so many times about the release date of the movie. I couldn’t go and see the movie at midnight on opening night (as much as I would have loved to) due to a scheduling conflict (thanks school!) and then I just didn’t get to go and see it until this past Wednesday.

Anyways I remembered on Monday I had the Deathly Hallows at my apartment and decided to realign my priorities (I have two papers due the beginning of next week) for the evening and read as much of it as I could before the movie on Wednesday. This is how I spent much of my night on Monday… Reading by the light of the Christmas tree? Magic. Reading Harry Potter by the light of the Christmas tree? Dumbledore level magic! (that’s a LOT of magic for those of you who aren’t in the know. So I got pretty far in the book on Monday night but Tuesday after school I decided I wanted to get farther. So I did a bit of homework then went back to reading. While I was reading I remembered I had a few sheets of iron on paper somewhere in my crafty stash and decided to make myself a Harry Potter tee (I didn’t have one yet and a HP tee is just what every crazy fan needs). I was trying to think of the perfect tee to make, there are lots of funny/creative ones on etsy/the internets, but I decided to just go with Harry, Herione and Ron circa The Chamber of Secrets. Making a tee shirt takes longer than I remembered (printing and waiting and ironing and waiting some more) so in between reading and tee shirt making I drew myself a fun little Harry Potter tattoo, that may or may not still be on my body 4 days later… Please excuse the ridiculous crazy fan face I am making and appreciate the awesomeness of my drawing fake tattoo skills. ha!

Anyways, so with all of my prep done I went to the movie on Wednesday and was veeery impressed. I don’t pick favourites but I’m still leaning towards the Half Blood Prince as my favourite (it was my favourite book too) or maybe the Chamber of Secrets, but this one was really good. Of all of the movies, it was the most similar to the book, which I really appreciate. I just wish they would’ve put the whole book into one movie instead of this part one part two business. I definitely could have sat in the theatre for a couple more hours.

So there it is, my super Harry Potter nerd-ness on display for all of you to see. And now I have to get back to these papers I have been neglecting for Harry, Hermione and Ron.

Its interesting to see how people change over the course of only a couple of years. In keeping with the family pics I posted yesterday I thought it would be fun to post our last family photo with the new one. October 13, 2008. October 11, 2010.

Almost two years to the day. Everyone seems so different. Its so strange/humorous for me to look at these two pictures together. It is especially strange for me to look at myself – personally I’ve come so far in the past two years, this year especially. Just becoming who I want to be, you know being true to myself and really going for my dreams/goals in life. I dunno, its just weird.

So here’s a fun little activity – take a loot at a picture of yourself taken pretty recently and then look at it beside one from a couple of years ago. Its quite the experience both humorous and surreal at the same time. Better yet, blog about it then link me up.

Kroes Family Portrait Session

When I went home for thanksgiving last month my family asked me to take some pictures of us to update the portrait on our wall (the one I took at thanksgiving two years ago) and to have one for Christmas cards this year. So before we headed off to my Aunt’s for dinner we had a quick (like 15 minutes quick) tripod, self-timer portrait session. Ok you say, its now the end of November and we haven’t seen any of these pictures yet? Well my family came to visit me yesterday and said the same thing. So needless to say I finally got around to editing the pictures today – which was actually a much needed break from the day to day homework routine that I have found myself in the past few weeks.

So, here are a few shots from the session.

The one where my dad is blowing in my mom’s ear? Yeah that’s the way he can usually be found in pictures – doing something to someone else to make them mess up the photo or making some really strange face himself. I’m pretty sure my grandma (who probably takes a hundred pictures each time we get together) does not have one ‘normal’ picture of my dad because he always makes some kind of a face. And love it about him. I’m actually super surprised that this went as well as it did given his usual antics.

Anyways given our short length of the shoot I was a little worried about not having anything usable even though in those 15 minutes I probably took close to a hundred pictures – but I think its safe to say there are a least a few usable shots from the day.

Now, to choose one and develop a Christmas card from it.

The Christmas Mantle

As was mentioned in the previous post I spent a portion of this weekend starting to decorate for Christmas and an even bigger portion of this weekend cutting paper snowflakes to assist in my decorating. This is the completed mantle. Trimmed with garland, big silver Christmas balls and the prettiest white lights. Completed with the prettiest mobiles made of paper snowflakes.

Ok so technically, technically, it’s not actually a mantle that the title of this post refers to, however, I have decided it shall henceforth be known as the mantle. Whatever.

Christmas is the most magical time. Its funny how quickly you can get into the Christmas spirit before Saturday I hadn’t really thought too much about Christmas but then I got out my decorations, dusted of my Christmas music playlist, got a Christmas coffee from Starbucks and bam! Christmas spirit is in full swing over here.

I spent a lot of time cutting paper snowflakes this weekend as a result my floor looked like this. A bit of a mess (understatement alert) – but the finished product is super pretty. I’ll share peeks later this week.

I need to start blogging more. I think the busiest part of the year (midterm season) is pretty much over so hopefully I’ll have some more time to be blogging because I miss all of youuuu!

I want to blog about decorating our little apartment, I want to share some holiday projects with you, I want to make another holiday playlist for you, and (drumroll) I think I’m finally ready to blog about India (this may be a couple of weeks before you see it because I want to do all of my posts and then schedule them for one or two a week – but it will be soon!).

I’m excited for this new season and fall has been busy but I want to enjoy the last few weeks of fall before its gone.

normally i would post something like this after a regular post in my little “ps. i love you” segment, but the anatomy/science/jurassic-park-loving kid in my is geeking out too much to use capitals let alone wait till i have something good to blog about to share this with you.

so yesterday i got my new nylon and didn’t get a chance to look at it until just a little while ago, and when i did i saw this…what are you freaking out about you say? here’s a better look… i am dying inside right now. these shoes are one of the most amazing things i have ever, ever seen. if they didn’t come with a pricetag of several thousand dollars i would consider buying a pair to display in my home.

i am obsessed with these. i can hardly contain myself and have been looking at them all day.

This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and while I welcomed fall at the end of August, this holiday kind of welcomes fall back for the normal people in Canada (aka those who aren’t waiting all through winter, spring and summer for the return of fall).

“Got muh hurrr did”

For those of you who don’t speak ghetto, that title is “Got my hair done.” ha!

Let me preface this post by saying I *love* my stylist. When I moved over to the other side of the city, I left an amazing stylist but it was too far of a ride on public transit (considering I’m carless) to go over just to get my hair done – especially when there are probably 10 or 15 salons within a 10 minute walk of my building. I tried out a bunch of different stylists and after almost a year I found one that I love. I have complete trust in Michelle and kind of give her free reign to run with the idea I have every time I get my hair done.

Anyways, tonight I got my hair done, told her kind of what I wanted and let her have at it. This is what I look like now (please excuse the dirty mirror):Eeeee! Crazy right? I really love it – its super different and the back is half long/half short too. I don’t know how she manages to kill it every time, but she does. I’m so fascinated watching people cut hair, because it really is their art form. Its really interesting to watch her work on my hair and then see this at the end. I’m interested to see what my family will think this weekend (its Canadian thanksgiving this weekend) when I go home.

Also, Michelle asked me if I would ever consider being in a photo shoot for her. Of course I would! She and a few of her stylist friends occasionally do some shoots for their portfolios and apparently it’s hard to come by guys with interesting hair. ha! We’ll see what comes of that in the future.

Tonight is homework. Tonight is Greys. Tomorrow is a bit of homework. Tomorrow is packing almost all of my laundry so I can do it at home this weekend. Tomorrow or Saturday I will post my fall playlist so check back for that.

A New Project & A New Layout

So the other day I mentioned some exciting news and that news is that I am now a member of The Creative Type! I was thrilled when Danielle asked me if I wanted to join and I am so excited to be a part of the team of super talented ladies over there. We are changing things up, doing things a little bit differently and its all really exciting stuff.

Anyways, we are back for the fall season with a new prompt. This month the challenge is to create a layout about someone who inspires you. We all chose to do a layout about or inspired by or lifted from someone else on the DT.

Of course, since I had just visited her, I did mine about Vanessa. I was feeling extra “artsy” the night I cranked this layout out, so I channelled my inner Vee, Dina and Dani and ended up using lots of mists and paints etc. Because I failed at taking pictures during my little trip photo cred goes to the talented Mandi (thanks Lady!). Thanks to Steven for insisting I keep that little pink ride ticket from the fair – because it was the perfect little addition to my layout along with my admission ticket (the red one) which I didn’t mean to keep but was in my bag when I cleaned it out. Aaaand the super cool red sibling rivalry label was from the bottle of wine we enjoyed on the Saturday night (not the actual bottle, but another bottle of the same that I have since consumed). Nostalgic right?

I have been listening to this lovely’s new album literally non-stop since I got my hands on a copy last Thursday. As a whole, it is a really solid album. Whenever I’m in my room its on on my laptop. You can be guaranteed I’m listening to it on my phone when I’m walking to class, or taking the bus to campus. A few of the tracks have already made it into my 25 top played after only having been in my library for a mere 5 days. Its just that good kids.

She is coming to Toronto on November 5 to play a show at a small little theatre. And I am desperately looking for someone to go with (aka drive since I am carless ha!). But seriously, if you want to let me know! Because I will find a way to go if its the last thing I do.

A Small Goal + A Dare.

So a while ago, Elsie posted a little challenge to make four small, fun goals for yourself. You can see that here. I don’t love making goals for myself at the best of times and at that specific time I had just returned from India and was starting back to work and I didn’t have the emotional energy or capacity to make four goals for myself. Then the girls at the Dares started back into the fall routine and I thought it would be fun to make a little goal for myself to do all of the prompts that are posted over there (I’d been a long time follower of the Dares but only participated two or three times in the past).

So I made the goal for myself but decided not to blog about it. First reason: I only had one and I was supposed to make four. Second reason: I hadn’t really gotten back into school yet and what if once I got back into the routine I didn’t have the time or energy to do any dares but I had already told everyone I was going to do EVERY. SINGLE. DARE.

Well now I’m sharing the goal with you and you’re probably wondering why the change of heart. Well last night after an extended homework sesh, I got out all my stuff and cranked out a page for the latest dare and I realized that a) I need to make more time to scrap during the school year because it (along with lots and lots of coffee) helps to keep me sane. Also, I am going to do every dare this year. I will. Its a simple as that. I may not get them done in a timely manner, I may not even love the pages. But I will do them. So there. My epiphany.

And because I’ve just bored you with the inner workings of my goal averted, procrastinating soul. I’ll share my layout with you.

Dare 168 – Scrap a soundtrack to a memory. From my drive to York the past weekend. 20 hours of driving time = just as much listening time. But for the record it shouldn’t have taken 20 hours, close, but not that much – except there was construction in a number of places and a nice detour courtesy of my gps that took me nearly to Syracuse and 3 hours out of my way. Anyways its all good.

This weekend I celebrated the last weekend of my last summer holidays ever (I started my final year of nursing school today) with a little weekend roadtrip to spend the weekend with some lovelies.

What up P.A.?! (that one’s for you Katie. ha!)

Anyways a little while ago, my friend Vanessa emailed me and told me she was collecting gifts for a little surprise baby shower she was planning with Steven for Katie. I responded jokingly with something along the lines of, “Well I should come and give Katie the gift of my presence but since that could never happen, I’ll make you something”. But a few days later, I asked myself “Why couldn’t I go and give Katie the gift of my presence at her shower?” So I did. Friday I took the drive down through upstate NY (gorgeous drive by the way – the leaves are starting to change colours!!) to Vanessa’s. I arrived at like 9 on Friday night and Vanessa and I spent the night making crafty decorations for the shower and consumed numerous glasses of delicious boxed wine deciding that it is indeed Refreshing White that is better than Crisp White and not the other way around.

Saturday we spent the morning conspiring further with Steven and putting together the last of the prep for the shower. We suprised Katie 100% and had a lovely little shower made all the better by the gifts so many lovely people sent.

Then we made our way to the York fair for some fair rides and games and cheesy pirate shows, we saw Vanessa’s space for her new cafe, The Green Bean Roasting Co., I played catch with Paisley and we finished our day with a yummy dinner at Bistro 19.

Katie and Steven are super lovely and kind and just good people. They are such a cute little family.

Later that night, after Katie and Steven left for home, Vanessa and I spent the night playing cards, listening to and chit-chatting about music and of course, enjoying more wine, this time a lovely Canadian(!!) red blend provided by moi.

Then Sunday morning I made the drive back home to Canada but not before a two hour detour provided by my GPS (grr!). The weekend was amazing and I’m so glad I decided to go. Katie said her shower was better than her wedding. How sweet! It just made my heart happy I could be apart of it. Vanessa and I decided she is the cutest pregnant lady and I’m saying it now, she has the cutest little family. Her and Steven are super nice and lovely and just really good people. And Paisley is just darling.

Vanessa, is a lovely hostess, who knows about good wine (she taught me what a punt is and thereby increasing my two-step wine selection process to a three-step one. ha!) and a hell of a lot about music. She sent me a little packed lunch for the road and I just want to put her in my pocket.

Thanks for hanging out with me you guys!

I’m so happy I’ve made such amazing friends (yes you!!) through this whole internet/blogging/scrapbooking business and that now I have met some of them in real life. Its always so amazing to me how kind and sweet people are around here.

Yesterday while I was out and about I saw a number of awesome things including a tape dispenser shaped like what else? but a cassette tape!! Sadly I didn’t purchase that but I did purchase a new magazine. Cooler Magazine out of the UK is pretty much amazing. Visually, its one of the prettiest/coolest magazines I’ve ever laid eyes on and given my slight magazine addiction that number is pretty high. Think Nylon but for with more surf/snowboarding content depending on the season.

Basically I want you to go out and check out this magazine but until then check out a bit of the June/July issue. Pretty right?

flavour flave.On the weather section of this layout it says to early to tell (i worked last night till 6 this morning and came home and decided to finish this layout). but as i was finishing it and the sun was rising this is what the weather shaped up to be. This lasted for a good 7 minutes and then burned away. Now the sun is bright as bright can be and it is shaping up to be a gorgeous day. just perf!

Also, shout out to my dog. Holler!

Now after having been up for approximately 22 hours. I do not plan on sleeping yet. The fam is going back to school shopping today so instead of sleeping I am accompanying them. There will most definitely be a Starbucks stop on the way and probably a couple during the course of the day. Tonight at work could be interesting. meh.

weekend craftiness.

This weekend on twitter I mentioned I was going to attempt to get some scrapping done with some really old supplies. Since I’m living at my parents house all I had to use was a box of old supplies that I have to get rid of that I didn’t think I would ever use.

Well I’m glad they were here this weekend because I put them to good use. Well most of them anyways (there’s still some really questionable and dare I say, ugly, stuff that I may try to use on something later on this week. But seriously when I see it I wonder what the heck I was thinking when I bought it).

Most of the papers you see are (I’m pretty sure) from the dollar store from back in the day. There’s a bit of Chatterbox and old MME stuff there too. And luckily I had a small stash of vintage goodies like ledger papers and old sewing patterns around here for just such an occasion. First up is a small set of thank you notes for some special people. I saw something like these somewhere on the interweb a while ago but I didn’t save the picture to my inspiration folder. I hope I’m not, but I may be inadvertently copying these. So if you’ve seen something like this somewhere before, let me know so I can credit the person who inspired these notes.

And a fun little layout about a day trip to Wonderland I took with the fam last week. I used the park map, an old library card, vintage sewing pattern some of the aforementioned old product, an H&M bag (if i never shopped for clothing I wouldn’t have half of the stuff I use for scrapbooking these days) and some AC glitter cardstock.

Have you guys seen this stuff? It is ridiculously glittery. Super glam. Totally tacky. And I kind of love it. I had to get a couple sheets the other day.

The mush cut, the cowlick front and centre, the purple thermal, sweet glasses. Yup, 1998 was a good look for me. I was especially attractive when the glasses slid down to the end of my nose.

If you follow me on twitter you may have seen I had some adventures in scrapbooking using really old product. I am hoping tomorrow brings some nice light so I can photograph said craftiness.

You may or may not remember, but a while back i guest designed for my friend Tara at Up the Street Scrapbooking. You can see the layouts that I made with her pretty kit here. And then while I was in India, she posted a DIY that I did using her kit and you can see that here.

Well, if that’s not all, I made one more layout with the kit that I used in my Hambly DT submission earlier this summer and never got around to sharing. Anyways, here it is. Its probably one of my favourite layouts in a while. I used the Studio Calico paper, the Cosmo Cricket letters and the brown paper packaging from the kit along with my American Apparel bag with some SC FabRips underneath.

Simple. Fun. Just the way I’m liking my pages lately. Also, I forgot just how long my hair was before I went to India. It was super long.

Today I am helping my sister paint her room a nice shade of lime-ish green. I’m also going to attempt to scrapbooking using some really old supplies I have around here.

a belated happy birthday.

Just wanted to pop in and say a quick belated birthday to one of my besties and to my favourite roommate ever! I was unfortunately unable to attend the festivities (including delicious sushi – jealousss) this past weekend however I was pleased to find that she was still able to have a good time despite my absence.

While I was trying to put together this post a-I had a fantastic time looking through the old photos of our times together and b-I realized that we have like zero pictures together (how is that even possible after living together for two years). This MUST be remedied this year.

I did discover a few things about our pictures together.

1) The ones we do have one of us looks like a fool, take the one above for instance –although with that one I am intentionally trying to look that way (its my Napolean Dynamite face).

2) Of the photos of just us, there is a disproportionate number of them from various Halloween events (probably three quarters)(take the above photo for instance).

i have nothing intelligent or overly meaningful to contribute to the blogosphere today. chances are i probably won’t have anything tomorrow and i’m sure it could probably even be argued that nothing i have ever posted on this blog is truly intelligent or that meaningful. but its ok and we carry on.

i’ve been working on doing this blogging thing for myself and for no one else. so thats what this post is, a random collection of my thoughts for this week so far (yes i realize that it is only monday). i also don’t feel like using capitals today, and this is going to be pretty stream of consciousness, so i apologize in advance for its randomness and if it is hard to follow. i’m having a hard time getting back into the swing of things after returning from my trip (that includes my blogging schedule - although there really was no blogging schedule to speak of before i left). part of it has to do with the killer amount of travel time we had on our way back home. we were in transit for over 30 hours, and with 9.5 hours of time difference between india and canada – you can be sure i was suffering some serious jetlag. that, coupled with a pretty major change in plans* is having a major impact on my ability to transition back into my real life smoothly.

*long story, but in short, i had planned to continue living in my apartment in london (where i spent the beginning of the summer) for the remainder of the summer looking for a job for september. but after an email from the nursing home i have worked at off and on for the past years while i was away, i am now working back there for the month of august and living at my parents house. most of my stuff however, is still at the apartment in london, and i’m not planning on moving it back here for only a month, so its making for a very interesting living situation. i have the essentials here, but some clothes that i may want are not here, none of my crafty supplies are here. also i’m still going to have to look for a job in london in september on account of the fact that i didn’t work for four out of five months this summer and tuition is due right now. ha. so my days are going to be spent between london and home while working full time nights at the nursing home. okay, so that wasn’t that short. haha

ummm and now i don’t really remember where i was going with that so. . .

have you seen the latest dare? all the girls are killing it this week but this. . .i’m pretty sure i actually let out a little gasp when i saw this page by vee. how perfect? i dieeee.

ok well since i still can’t remember the direction this post was originally supposed to go in, i guess thats it.

i kind of have this unexpressed side of myself that is really into the fashion industry. i’m no expert by any means, but i definitely know more than your average 20-something young man (call it a hobby) and it doesn’t hurt that i get a lot of my crafty inspiration from the things i see in fashion magazines blogs etc.

anyways, this post (which says so perfectly, everything i wanted to but could never express about mcqueen’s FW 2010 collection) secured this blog’s spot in my favourite blogs ever. photos from here.

i’m am in love with tavi’s writing style. i honestly think she’s one of the best writer’s out there today. she’s super eloquent and her phrasing is perfect.

she is also super creative, her style is one-of-a-kind, her photos for the blog are gorgeous and she is a talented artist.

of course its no surprise i would love this blog since i have a habit of loving blog’s written by old souls (think kara or kim). definitely one of my daily reads.

I was doing some tidying this week and found my old highschool student cards. I’ve been out of highschool for 3 years so you can do the math about how old they are.

I have decided to share them with you. They speak for themselves.

Your welcome. At a first glance it might look like I lost weight from grade 11 to 12, but no, the photo is just really badly distorted.

Maybe one day I’ll show you my first driver’s licence. It’s good. My friends frequently ask me to bring it out when they need a good laugh. And man do they laugh. I’m sure they’d ask to see these too if they knew I had them.

this is what my workspace at my parents house looks like right now. it is a disastrous combination of clothes in various states of unpacked-ness, broken ipods that need to be fixed (boo), sunglasses, important mail that needs to be attended to, pretty papers that are probably being crumpled under piles of stuff, souvenirs that need to be given out, a few boxes with nothing in them, a pile of old newspapers, some books, to-do lists a-plenty and Lord only knows what else is hidden deeper under all of that stuff.

going to india for 6 weeks = amazing.

dealing with all of the stuff i need to after returning = not so much.

I survived six weeks of insane traffic and am currently super jet-lagged but I am back in Canada. I’m not sure how every single Indian person has not died in a traffic accident.

I have no idea how I’m going to share about my trip.

I spent some time going through pictures today – it’s exhausting.

Looking through pictures from the trip is really surreal. It was a whirlwind of a trip and I still can’t really believe that it happened.

I have so much catch-up to do in the www. I’m not sure how I’m going to go about doing that.

I also have no idea how I’m going to document the trip scrap-wise. I know I want to do something but I’m not sure what. I will however, be using some of the new SC line documentary (I won a full set before I left).

Scratch that, I do have an idea. I’m thinking I would like to do something along these lines.

Two things I know for sure:

1- I love India more than ever before.

2- I missed you!!!

Ok, technically tomorrow is the day but go with it ok? ha!

Tonight I fly out of Pearson in Toronto headed for India. Its pretty surreal – especially looking at that layout. I’m not even really excited yet because I don’t really believe it. I thought after the week of stress ended I would feel more excited to go but I’m still shocked that I’m actually going to be in India tomorrow. Crazy.

I have been assured that I will have pretty good/consistent internet access the places I’ll be going so I’ll still be around the world of the internet. I do not know however, how often I will be able to blog etc or how often I’ll want to (I will be in India after all). I’m planning to take it all in while I’m there see and do as much as I can. I’m not even bringing my laptop in an attempt at some sort of an internet cleanse.

I will be checking my email however so if you email me I’ll get it and respond. I’ll also be on Skype quite frequently (at the request of my dear mom) so if you see me on feel free to say hi! (and if you don’t have me on Skype ask me for it and I’ll add you)

So I guess, this is a surreal, sort-of –farewell. I have one more post scheduled for tomorrow and there is the possibility that there may be one more scheduled for next week.

Now, don’t you forget about me! (and as I type that, that lovely Simple Minds song slips its way in my head never to leave until something better [or not] gets in there) Because while there may be extended period of time in which there are no blog posts here (let’s be honest – it’s not like its never happened before and I didn’t even have the “I was out of the country” excuse) I will be back, and back with a vengeance. With stories and pictures and possibly even videos from my trip to India. So stay tuned.

So this morning I woke up and had a small freakout closely followed by a lengthy dance party. I’ll tell you why.

In exactly one week from today I will be in approximately hour 12 of a 20 hour flight here: photos from this amazing photographer and world traveler.

At this point I am beyond excited to go – and just want to be there. I don’t want to have to go through the next week of stress re: packing, obsessing over last minute travel plans, getting my affairs in order etc. Leaving the country for a month and a half leaves a lot of loose ends that need to be tied up – not fun, I can assure you.

I am going home tomorrow to spend a few days with my family before I fly out so I have TONS of things to do here today and tomorrow before I head home. I have lists everywhere and my mind is craziness. I’ll be blogging right up until I leave and hopefully even updating from India.

Here is another layout I made with the March kit from Up The Street Scrapbooking. This is probably one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a long time. We were sitting in our microbiology class last month and this is how the events unfolded. . .

Dr. Colby: “The best sweet you’ll ever taste is. . .”

Amanda: (to me) “Nanaimo bars!!!”

Dr. Colby: “. . .pure cane sugar.”

I had to excuse myself because I was laughing so hard.

Aanyways, nothing from this kit is going to waste. I used the paper bag it came in as my background for this layout, the negative space from he Cosmo letters as a mask for misting and I used some of the negative letter space to tone down the striped Cosmo paper.

A while ago I blogged a sneak peek of a layout I made for my friend Tara (if you are here from Tara’s blog welcome!! I hope we can be blog friends and you’ll come back again and again!). When she asked me to play around with one of her kits I could not say no. 1-because my student budget along with my trip to India budget, does not allow for the purchase of any new scrapbooking supplies. And two, once I took a look at her kits I knew I’d love to play around with them.

I used the March kit from Up the Street Scrapbooking and it was fantastic . It was a lovely mix of Studio Calico’s Anthology and Cosmo Cricket. I of course gravitated to the modern vintage SC line, but the Cosmo supplies were fun too.

Here are some of the layouts I made with the kit. This was inspired by a layout by Jen. I haven’t made cards for literally years, but it was fun to play around with them again. I like that you can get a couple done in a short period of time – it makes me feel like I accomplished something without really thinking too hard. Which by the way is sometimes just what the Dr. orders for those inspirations slumps.

I have tons of this kit left. You will be seeing more layouts from this kit for a while . I have a few more already done that I will be sharing sometime in the near future. So keep checking back for those.

i just wanted to pop in to thank you all for the birthday love yesterday! it was quiet and lovely and i spent the day by the pool (the weather was gorgeous) and the evening eating delicious mexican with my fam. i’m thinking maybe dinner then karaoke with my friends this weekend? we’ll see.

aaalso, yesterday StudioCalico had a blog hop around all of the DT members blogs and each member was giving away a full set of their new collection, documentary. i was lucky enough to win at my friend sasha’s blog. i LOVE this collection (you can see the collection here). all i can say is thank GOD for giveaways because the student/6-week trip to india budget does not allow for scrappy supplies.

i think this week i’m going to put together a 21 before 22 list of things i want to do in the coming year. what do you have on your list?

whirlwind weekend

ever have weekends that go by so fast they seem like a blur. i am coming off one of those weekends. a weekend in which my cousin got married and i got to spend a few hours with one of my best friends who was visiting from out west. if i didn’t have pictures, i wouldn’t even be sure that the weekend actually happened.

the weather for the wedding was literally perfect. i don’t think they could have asked for a better day. the ceremony and reception were really lovely. it was a perfect, small (less than 100 people – just the way i like my weddings) wedding.

here are a few of my faves from the wedding. the groom is my cousin ben and the lovely bride is his wife jenn. the middle picture is my aunt and uncle, cousins and their husbands & wives. the last one is my brother who thought it would be a fantastic idea to take a picture with a pinecone (which by the way were in great abundance at the church) – little did i know it would become probably my favourite picture of the day.

for the record, it felt amazing, to have a camera in my hands. my point and shoot died months ago and since then i’ve been getting by (taking occasional pictures of day to day things and using it to photograph various projects i’ve completed) on my very first digital which i got like 7 or 8 years ago. the thing is gigantic, and the settings wheel sticks so sometimes it doesn’t turn on. i must admit however, it does take a pretty good picture.

aaanyways, it was really nice to have a camera in my hands again. and it reminds me that i MUST get one before i leave for my trip. if you are getting rid of a camera, or you know someone who is let me know and hopefully we can work something out. i’m looking to get a reasonably priced, possibly even used DSLR so if you know where i can find one let me know.

one cheesy smile and a sneak peak

I have a hard time making a serious/real smiling face in pictures – hence this cheesy smile from our picnic the other day.

Lately I’ve been scrapping quite a bit (more than I’ve been blogging – I know, but I’m ok with it, I’ve been blogging more than April which was awful, so technically I’ve improved and I’m perfectly ok with my blogging schedule). So I’ve been scrapping, quite a bit, for myself anyways – which is good because lately I just HAVE NOT been feeling it.

Pretty new products help. I’ve been playing with a kit from my new friend Tara at Up the Street Scrapbooking (who has really fun kits) so I can’t share anything in full yet because I’m not done with it but here is a sneak peek at one of the layouts I’ve cranked out with the kit. I’m kind of in love with the Studio Calico FabRips. I’ve used them on every layout I’ve made so far with the kit.

I have a few more ideas of things I’d like to make with the kit so once I get those completed I’ll be able to share more of those with you.

I also sent off my Hambly DT submission this week. I would love to be on the Hambly DT so we’ll see what happens – I’m not holding my breath though. I will say however, that I included some of my favourite layouts I've ever made aaand a new fave that no one has ever seen. The key word is MY favourites. I spent some time trying to figure out what they would like to see from me – but after a couple of weeks finally decided that wasn’t what I should be focusing on. So I submitted my favourite layouts, ones that showcase my style as a designer. I spend too much time thinking about what other people want to see from me and not enough time focusing on what I want to see from myself. This goes for scrapbooking, blogging and other areas of my life in general and its something I’ve been working on in 2010.

Aaanyways. That’s all I have for you today. I hope you have a fantastic long weekend. (Is it a long weekend in the states? or just here?) If you have a long weekend I hope its fantastic and if you have a regular length weekend I hope its just as good as if it were a long one.

probably my favourite word ever. i just love it – for no particular reason other than i think its really pretty. i’m a nerd like that – i have favourite words. and that has nothing to do with what this post is about i just thought i would share that little tidbit. today is rainy rainy rainy. rainy days are magical aren’t they? i love a good rainy day from time to time. they’re therapeutic i find.

i had to venture out earlier this afternoon for a job interview and then i hit up a few of my favourite used books stores on the way home. i didn’t even use an umbrella on the way home.

now i am home. in dry, cozy clothes. listening to diane birch and the fleet foxes. and thinking i might start to scrapbook the evening away.

the only thing that might make this afternoon/evening more perfect would be if someone were to show up with starbucks and make nice things with me. oh, and if it were to start thundering ( i looooove thunderstorms).

This is my momma (and my crazy dad who is always doing something of this nature in pictures, and my brother who creepily reminds me of Justin Bieber).Dorothy Charlotte Kroes (on the left).

She is more commonly referred to as Charlotte, some of her friends call her Char, sometimes I call her Charlie but mostly I just call her mom.

She waited to start her family until much later than most back in the day (ha). First going to school and building a career for herself in the fashion industry. She worked for Tip Top Tailors in Toronto. I don’t know a whole lot about her job there, but I do know that she did a lot of styling for them. At the height of her career she was jetsetting all over the city styling models for photoshoots. Somewhere during this time she met this crazy guy, my dad. Although, she did tell me one time that before she met my dad she began preparing herself to be single for the rest of her life. Thank God my dad came along when he did and Mom didn’t join a convent or something – because then you wouldn’t be reading this post. lol. Then somewhere along the way we happened. Today, she is the hardest working woman I know. She is kind and loving and giving. She makes the best desserts – even though she is sometimes confused about how to distinguish between desert and dessert. She is funny and goofy (especially when she is with her brother and sister) and she has the best laugh. There are times when she’ll get laughing so hard that she can’t breathe and she starts crying and anyone who is in the room with her will be laughing too because her laugh is so infectious and they literally cannot help themselves. She loves to decorate our house for all the holidays, and has a special place in her heart for Christmas decorations (there are boxes of them).

People often say we look alike, although I don’t necessarily see it.

back in love actually – with Flickr. For the past couple of years Flickr was my main source of inspiration for all things crafty. There was rarely a day that went by where I didn’t check it at least once (and often numerous times) a day. The past, I would say 6 months, I just haven’t been feeling it. I’ve been using WeHeartIt a lot in the place of where I would have used Flickr in the past (I find the search on WeHeartIt turns up better results than on Flickr although there are sooo many other things that I don’t like about WeHeartIt) and I was only uploading things very irregularly. Over the past 6 months I had only uploaded about ten times.

This past week-ish, all that has changed. I have been browsing on Flickr everyday, finding myself some lovelies to inspire me creatively and I Have even uploaded a few times in the past few weeks. So here, to inspire you, are some of my most recent faves from Flickr:

Scallops, Ink, Matting and Bohemia

Well first of all, happy [inter]national scrapbooking day to you all. To celebrate I thought it would be fun to go through all my old layouts and share some of the real gems with you. So here is a little walk through the days of scalloped scissors, over inked edges, matting every photo, my intense love for MME’s Bohemia line and using every technique I know on one layout. So there you have it, some of my first real ‘scrapbooking’ layouts. I guess I’ve technically been scrapping in some for or another for most of my life.

For the record – I HATE the word scrapbooking. I dunno, there’s just so much negative connotation associated with it – I really dislike it and use it as little as possible. However I don’t have any really good alternatives so any would be welcomed.

Random Thoughts From a Monday

First of all hi! Second of all I realize it says Monday in the title of the post and it is in fact a Tuesday – I’m leaving it. This just shows you where my brain is today – off in its own little world.

Here are a collection of random thoughts that raced through my mind - in no particular order.

I need a job.

I do NOT want to shower today – such a hassle. (closely followed by) I need new body wash. (and) I love the smell of Dove shampoo.

I want to draw more – something along the lines of Nancy Drew illustrations or the 101 Dalmatians illustrtions. (You know like ink + watercolour)

This lemon chicken is not the best I’ve tasted however this egg roll is fantastic.

I need a haircut. Really badly. (As evidenced by the photo above – I seem to have an unkept razor bob going on there – a la Rihanna or Posh Spice)

Hills TONIGHT! (Yeah, I have a thing for bad TV. This was closely followed by) Oh yeah – I don’t get MTV so I have to wait until tomorrow to watch it online. Aaaand I probably have to avoid the internet for spoilers. At least I have Parenthood.

Hire me. Hire me. Hire me.

I need to have dance parties more regularly. Dance-offs even.

I wonder if you could play a board game with someone over skype (or some other form of video IM) assuming they have the same game.

My inspiration board is really boring, and small. I need to kick it up a notch – I’m thinking inspiration wall. (Links to inspiring inspiration walls/boards would be much appreciated)

Quick Update.

So I know I have been an awful blogger lately, but yesterday I wrote my last exam and as of yet I’m still unemployed so I guess now I have no excuse not to blog because I essentially have unlimited amounts of time on my hands. lol.

So yeah, I wrote my last exam yesterday.

I cried myself to sleep that I wasn’t at Coachella. But remain hopeful that I will attend one day.

I had a glimmer of hope in attending Lollapalooza but its the week after I return from India so those hopes were dashed. But I remain hopeful that I will attend this one day as well (just pleeaase bring back arcade fire the year I go).

This starts next week and I am SUPER excited. (source)

I have not had a working camera for approximately 7-ish months now. Let me tell you – it sucks huuuge. I am finding I have like no pictures from the last 7 months making it very hard to scrapbook and blog about myself. Unfortunately since there are times, especially now as I reach the end of the year I can barely afford to eat (slight exaggeration) a new camera does not quite fit into the student budget. Luckily when I go home to my parents I can use theirs (even though the frequency of this is far to little to have any real effect on my need/craving to take pictures) and I have really been itching lately to take some pictures.

This weekend I am heading home for Easter and I am really excited to be able to take some pictures (especially since the weather is supposed to be fantastic). Even more so film has been inspiring me a lot lately and I am thinking I will bust out my dad’s old pentax and do some shooting in film of my families Easter celebrations.

I just love the imperfections that you can get with a roll of film that you can’t get (as easily) with a digital. Here are some lovely film shots from flickr that have been inspiring me as of late:

Let’s be clear, the wearing of tights as pants is an abomination. TIGHTS ARE NOT PANTS.

Sure, in the context of sports, ballet, hair metal, and renaissance fairs – tights can function as suitable leg coverings – but still THEY ARE NOT PANTS. No, these are not events that magically transform tights into pants; these are historically acceptable acts of pantlessness.

Tights as pants leave nothing to the imagination. Tight as pants are an affront to those of us who prefer not to know the most intimate details of their neighbour’s bodies. Tights as pants are the fashion equivalent of too much information. This gratuitous divulgence of assets repels where the tights-as-pants wearer presumably hopes to entice.

We have tired of tolerating attempts to force tights into a non-native garment category and have decided to do something about it. (via)

Harsh? Maybe, but something I feel very strongly about nonetheless. Especially now as the warmer weather this has become an increasingly apparent issue. I am by no means opposed to tights – when worn as tights. Under a little dress, long tunic type shirt, under a skirt with a nice pair of boots – the possibilities for tights as tights are virtually endless. However the usage of them as pants should end now.

I realize I’ve been an awful blogger and I’m not apologizing or making excuses – but I’ve been suuuper busy and I feel like things are going to follow this same busy path until exams are over. Anyways have you heard:

. . .that Forever21 now has a men’s line!! Fantastic. I got an email a while ago saying that it was coming, and I was very excited to see what the line was going to be like. Now that it’s here I am very pleased.

I am a huuuge fan of the grey plus one bright(ish) colour. I looove those first grey jeans. I could max out my visa shopping online. (I won’t mom – but I could).

a winter goal.

I like to make goals for myself. I don’t really do so well with really serious/formal goals but I really enjoy making fun little goals to work towards. It doesn’t mean that I am any less serious about achieving them though its just that sometimes my goals are made just by putting something out there. For example here, here, here and here. And sometimes, they come true – like here (eee!).

Anyways it’s no secret that I have been watching the Olympics lately – I really don’t care what sport is on but the past couple of days have been especially fantastic. Between women’s boardercross and men’s halfpipe, I really want to take up snowboarding. via

So there – with all of you as my witnesses, I will one day, hit the slopes, snowboard in hand (or afoot) and learn to snowboard. Maybe this winter, if not then definitely next. Maybe I’ll surprise myself and be able to do sweet tricks like these.via via via

And perhaps if I don’t find myself able to do those tricks, at the very least I will be able to go out and spend a fun day on the slopes with my friends and look sweet in the awesome gear. Aaaand I’ll have a reason to vacay to Whistler (gorgeous!). Ps I love you.

Friends, Lovers or Nothing?

Valentines, actually. Yes, John Mayer + Myself = Valentines. Thats what he said to me and thousands of other people last when he was in town last Saturday night. After getting over the initial disappointment of finding ourselves in what I thought were going to be floor seats but ended up not being floor seats – the show was amazing. Even not having floor seats, our seats were better than the last time I saw John a couple years ago. In fact the whole show was even better than the last time (even though this time did include a gross amount of PDA by a couple who probably would have been better off staying at home this time did not however, include being hit by the man sitting behind us because we were standing and he thought we should be sitting – long story. You can read a bit about it here).

Michael Franti and Spearhead opened – who I was thoroughly confused by (they played a wide range of music styles and whenever someone in the band didn’t have a part in the song they left the stage). They did do a really good job of pumping us up – which I suppose is the main task of the opener is. They are entertainers for sure. Also, the lead singer (Michael Franti) popped up like three rows in front of where we were sitting to do one of his songs. That was pretty sweet. I love John Mayer – I don’t care what people say about him and I don’t even really care what he says. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Continuum is one of my favourite albums ever. He is a fantastic musician and a really gifted performer. I’ve been to two shows of his and I’ve had an amazing time at both. I was ready to hitchhike to Toronto to see him again on Sunday night. I don’t really know what to say – there is just something about seeing one of your favourite artists live. Magic.

Like last time I didn’t take a picture of myself so you’ll just have to believe that these pictures are mine and that I was actually there. Lol.

A New Banner

I realize I have been saying I plan on redoing my blog for the past, I dunno 6 months? Anyways it always just gets pushed to the back of my priority list and I’m ok with that. However today I just got the urge to make a quick new banner for this space I call my blog. I don’t know how I feel about it but I’m going to keep it. I feel like it may just be the whole change of it – I had the last banner for just over 1 year so I’ll give it some time to grow on me. Maybe the new banner will give me the kick I need to get the rest of this place updated.

Today i spent the day bumming around home watching the Olympics. Normally I have nothing to do with sports but the Olympics turn me into a die-hard sports fan. It doesn’t matter what sport it is I am watching it. ha. Tomorrow I will start my list of things I need to get done before the end of the week when I head back to school quite possibly intermingled with a generous amount of Olympic watching.

Tomorrow I will be back with a blog about John Mayer on Saturday night.

I’ve never been a fan of Valentines day itself – however I have always loved giving and getting valentines cards (don’t ask me why). One of my favourite things growing up in school was decorating a paper bag each Valentines day and exchanging cards with all of my classmates. I have not however given out Valentines cards for a couple of years.

A couple of weeks ago Elsie shared a super fun Valentines DIY that inspired me to make my own Valentines for my friends this year (you can check that out here). I used her DIY as a guideline DI-myself!! Here are my fun valentines. In case you can’t tell – these are all Lady Gaga – and the message says “I’m Gaga over you!” I thought it was funny.

I haven’t really drawn for soooo long - I kind of miss it. Two things I noticed/remembered: 1- Lady Gaga wears a lot of sunglasses (which is good for me because it saves me sketching the eyes) and 2 – I’m a scribbler when I draw I have a very sketchy/messy style.

Today I am spending my V-Day cleaning the apartment and packing up my things. My parents are coming to take me home for a week (reading week). I am looking forward to a little break (as I wrote that I realized just how much work I actually have to do on the little “break” ha!). How are you spending this silly little holiday??

Keeping with the informal scrapbooking theme I started yesterday by sharing my layout from last weekend, today I just wanted to give a shout out/share to one of my absolute favourite challenge blogs out there – The Dares.
